The Aqua Ultraviolet Advantage 2000 8-Watt Hanger Unit is a compact, hang-on-back ultraviolet sterilizer engineered by Aqua Ultraviolet. It neutralizes free-floating algae, bacteria, viruses, and protozoa without altering water chemistry or pH.
Technical Specifications
- Physical Dimensions: 12.5” Length x 2.75” Width x 5.5” Height.
- Power Draw: Consumes 8 watts of power with a 0.42 Amp draw at 120 Volts.
- Plumbing Connections: Features a 1/2" barbed inlet for vinyl tubing and an integrated 90-degree hanger spout for water return.
- Electrical Cords: Includes an 8-foot power cord from the wall to the transformer, and a 32" cable connecting the transformer to the lamp.
Core Product Features
- Clear Quartz Cap: Translucent glow cap allows visual confirmation that the lamp is functioning without exposing eyes to UV radiation.
- Slimline Chamber: Designed to optimize the water column proximity to the quartz sleeve for maximum UV exposure.
- Remote Transformer: Keeps electrical components and heat generation isolated away from the aquatic environment.
Performance & Flow Rates
UV sterilization efficiency depends strictly on exposure time. According to the manufacturer guidelines on Aqua Ultraviolet, the flow rates should match specific targets:
- Water Clarification (Algae/Green Water): Handles freshwater ponds or tanks up to 1,500 gallons at a maximum flow rate of 642 GPH.
- Freshwater Sterilization: Targets up to 200 gallons at a 642 GPH flow rate (30,000 μw/cm² dosage).
- Saltwater Reef Tanks: Targets up to 70 gallons with a recommended flow rate between 428 GPH and 642 GPH to preserve the planktonic food supply (30,000 to 45,000 μw/cm²).
- Parasite & Protozoa Eradication: Requires a slower, minimum flow rate of 214 GPH for fish-only marine setups (90,000 μw/cm² maximum kill rate).
