Get accurate, easy to read magnesium results in minutes!
Trusted by discerning reefers for years, Salifert Test Kits feature some of the easiest to read results available. Their test kits include easy to follow instructions and straightforward, accurate results. Salifert test kits are also some of the most economical; the Salifert Magnesium Test Kit will typically deliver 50 tests per kit.
Specifications
- Capacity: Typically provides up to 50 tests per kit.
- Accuracy: Measures in increments of 30 mg/L (ppm).
- Interference-Free: Results are not skewed by calcium or strontium when their combined levels are between 200 and 650 ppm.
- Suitability: Specifically for marine/saltwater use; not for freshwater.
Testing Procedure
- Sample: Use the 2ml syringe to add 2ml of tank water to the test vial.
- Reagent 1: Add 5 drops of MG1 and swirl gently for 5 seconds.
- Titration:
- Fill the 1ml syringe with 1.0ml of MG2 reagent (read from the bottom of the black plunger).
- Add MG2 drop-by-drop into the vial while swirling.
- Endpoint: Stop when the color changes sharply from pink/purple to blue or grayish-blue.
- Result: Note the position of the plunger on the syringe and compare it to the included conversion chart to find your ppm.
Why Magnesium Matters
- Photosynthesis: Magnesium is a core component of chlorophyll, essential for coral and algae health.
- Chemistry Stability: It prevents calcium and carbonate from bonding prematurely, making it easier to maintain high calcium levels for coral growth.
- Target Level: Most reefers aim for a range of 1,250 – 1,350 ppm, similar to natural seawater.
