The Trident Sample Line Filter is an inline maintenance accessory designed by Neptune Systems to protect automated water analyzers, including the original Trident (ACM) and the Trident NP (Nitrate/Phosphate) from clogging.

Purpose and Function

  • Debris Prevention: It strains out detritus, sand, and small pests (like copepods or amphipods) before they can travel up the black intake line.
  • System Protection: By blocking particulate matter, it prevents blockages in internal fluid pathways and reduces mechanical wear on internal dosing pumps.
  • Testing Accuracy: Prevents drifting readings or sudden "No Water Sample" errors caused by slow water draws or debris altering the volume of the testing cuvette.

Installation and Orientation

  • Flow Direction: The filter features an orientation arrow printed on its outer casing. It must be installed with the arrow pointing toward the Trident unit (following the direction of water flow from the aquarium/sump into the machine).
  • Placement: It connects inline along the black sample tubing. Note that during certain maintenance steps such as using tank water for reference solution testing on the Trident NP Neptune Systems recommends temporarily removing this filter.

Symptoms of a Clogged Filter

If the sample line filter becomes restricted or completely blocked, your aquarium controller system will typically alert you via:

  • "No Water Sample" error messages.
  • Drifting or skewed test results for Alkalinity, Calcium, Magnesium, Nitrate, or Phosphate.
  • Slow draws during the initial priming sequence.

Replacing the filter regularly or checking it whenever you notice testing inconsistencies will keep the automated testing cycle running smoothly.
